My Big Dog by Janet Stevens and Susan

Merl, the cat, knows she's special and everything in
the house is hers until a puppy moves in. Things are
so drastic that Merl runs away from home to find
someone who really appreciates her. There is a
happy ending to this story and Merl is still a special
cat.
My Sister Gracie by Gillian Johnson (E-1)*
Fabio, a dog who have everything, except a brother,
dreams about all the fun they could have. But the
family brings home Gracie who is a mutt, lazy and
homely, and worst of all, she is a girl! Fabio is not
happy but when another dog says Gracie is ugly,
Fabio rises to the occasion and defends his sister.
Hurrah for Fabio!

Let me give you a hint. My Mother used to call me "Gracie"
when I was a cute little girl--a long time ago!
