The Three Little Dinosaurs by Jim Harris

If you like the tale of The Three Little Pigs and
dinosaurs, this is the book for you. The three young
dinosaurs must make their way in the world and
everything is great until the Tyrannosaurus Rex,
better known as Rex, thinks he's found some
yummy little pigs.
Jack and the Giant: A Story Full of
Beans
by Jim Harris (E-3)
Jack lives with his ma, Annie Okey-Dokey, on the
Bar None ranch. They are so poor, they must sell
their one remaining old milk cow named Fred.
Instead, Jack brings magic beans home and a
beanstalk grows. Jack climbs the beanstalk and
meets the giant, Wild Bill Hiccups. Well, you know
how the story ends...or do you?
There was a Coyote Who Swallowed a
Flea
by Jennifer Ward and illustrated by Steve Gray

This story is told in the famiilar rhyme (
There was
an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly
) about a
coyote who does not know when to stop. Even after
he swallows the moon, he still wonders how long it
will be before breakfast is served.
The Ugly Pumpkin by Dave Horowitz (E-1)
Putting a wacky twist on Hans Christian Andersen's
"The Ugly Duckling," Horowitz tells this story of an
ugly pumpkin that doesn't fit in. He leaves the
pumpkin patch, and by the time Thanksgiving rolls
around, he discovers the truth about who he is.
I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a
Pie
written by Alison Jackson; illustrated by Judith
Bryon (E-1)
Based on the song about the old lady who
swallowed a fly, this Thanksgiving dinner guest
eats up everything in sight and ends up in the
Thanksgiving Day parade.
Dusty Locks and the Three Bears written
by Susan Lowell; illustrated by Randy Cecil (E-1)
The bear family take a walk when a dirty girl, Dusty
Locks, visits their cabin and makes herself right at
home--just like Goldilocks in her story.

The Tortoise and the Jackrabbit written by
Susan Lowell; illustrated by Jim Harris (E-1)
A different spin on a tale we all know about a slow
but steady tortoise and a fast over-confident
jackrabbit. The ending will make you smile. The
great illustrations are by one of my favorite
illustrators. This book is also listed on the

The Three Little Javelinas written by Susan
Lowell; illustrated by Jim Harris (E-3)
Set in the Southwest, the three little javelinas leave
home and each builds a house of their own. A
hungry coyote causes problems until at the very end
when he gets what he deserves.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf retold by B. G.
Hennessy; illustrated by Boris Kulikov

A young shepard wants to have some fun as he
falsely cries "Wolf!" and each time everyone comes
running to help find the sheep . But when real
wolves appear, no one comes and the shepard
cannot find his sheep. A-h-h, but the reader can.
Chickerella written by Mary Jane Auch;
illustrated by the author and Herm Auch (E-1)
This is a
Cinderella story with a twist that you'll
love! The illustrations make the story the most fun!
A sweet stepmother and her two daughters move
in but when the father leaves the household, the
stepmother shows her true colors. Saddened
Chickerella becomes a servant to the wicked trio.
Does Chickerella get the prince, yes, but the
ending is still a surprise. (2005) [2/08]

Pretty Salma by Niki Daly (E-2)
A fun West African version of the story,
Little Red
Riding Hood.
Salma is sent to the market by her
Granny but, alas, Salma does not heed Granny's
warning to not talk to strangers. Salma has a good
time until she meets Mr. Dog who is very tricky. But
Granny is the one in danger until Ka Ka Motobi the

The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs! told by
Jon Scieszka; illustrated by Lane Smith (E-2
A. Wolf knows the true story of what happened that
day and he thinks someone is trying to frame him.
Al takes this opportunity to tell his side of the
story...and he swears he is innocent. You be the
judge. (1989)
Big Bad Wolf is Good written by Simon
Puttock; illustrated by Lynne Chapman (E-1)
Big Bad Wolf is sad and lonely and he knows it's
because he is very bad, very bad. He decides to
change his ways but he soon discovers it is not an
easy thing to do.(2001)
Stuck in the Mud written by Jane Clarke;
illustrated by Garry Parsons (E-P)
If you love mud, you'll love this story that resonates
of another tale entitled
The Enormous Turnip in
which everyone in the family has to help pull a big
turnip out of the ground. In this story, a mother hen
finds her chick stuck in some mud and everyone in
the farmyard tries to help pull him out with no
success. There is a surprise ending that will make
