Book Award Lists |
While an award doesn't always guarantee that you'll enjoy a book, book awards do bring some books to the forefront that you might miss otherwise. It is always interesting to find out what other people think. Check out the Wyoming children's choice book awards here and the link to programs in other states. |

Newbery and Caldecott children's book awards are sponsored by the American Library Association, a national organization of librarians and supporters. The awards, the Newbery for the story and the Caldecott for illustration, are decided by two committees of adults. Members of the committees may discover books for consideration in a variety of ways, most often promotion by publishers. Only books published in the preceding year are considered for the annual recognition. If a book is missed or overlooked, it cannot be considered for another year which I feel is a drawback to the program. |
I've read these nominees and I know which book I would vote for today. |
The American Library Association also sponsors a Notable Children Book list annually. This is not a book award but an important recognition for authors and illustrators. This link provides current and past lists. |
